There are places where you will find thousands of links to websites, organized by subject; these are called Directories. While in Search engines results are determined by software, directories are sorted out by human hand. They are organized by subject where you can start searching with a general title and move towards more specific groups. On the other hand, search engines look for data that will match keywords, irrespective of subject. Directories are convenient for researchers who approximately know what they are looking for but need some suggestions how to narrow their topics.
Two Types of Directories There are two types of directories, open and closed. In open directories you can find valuable websites; open directories are usually free and available for everybody. In closed directories (they are not free) the entries are evaluated by experts of specific fields, therefore the information is usually more reliable than in open directories or search engines.
