How to Teach Basic English
With beginners, lesson material should be simple and it is important to go slowly. A good lesson plan can be very helpful. Try not to make things too difficult. You must talk very slowly. But do not talk too much. Let your students practice, too. You should choose practice activities that are simple and are very easy to understand. Explain the material slowly and clearly. In most cases a demonstration would be your best choice. Later, gradually, you can introduce more difficult activities but they should be clear and logical. Learning English should be fun. You can introduce games. And remember, you should focus on communication, not on grammar (grammar is only a language learning tool, but not an aim). The aim of learning a language is communication. It is important to design a good course outline before you start a course.
This basic English course outline provides the most important learning points for beginning level English learners.
Basic English Course Description, Objectives, Outcomes and Assessment
Instructor: Dr. Algirdas Makarevicius Duration: 15 Weeks Contact hours per week: 6 Venue: Room 501
Objectives • provide basic English skills that are needed in academic environment • improve fluency in speaking, listen and respond in English clearly • familiarize with the use of everyday vocabulary • provide an opportunity to learn about cultural norms through interaction with peers in pair and group work.
Outcomes On successful completion of this course the students will be able to do the following: • use dictionary skills effectively to grasp the correct meanings of words and phrases • construct simple sentences in correct grammatical structure • deliver short presentations on simple topics • identify features of basic writing skills • demonstrate ability to use both intensive and extensive reading strategies • participate in class discussions and question-answer sessions with confidence.
Beginners usually have no idea what to expect from the course because they never had a foreign language learning experience. Therefore, it is important to help them enjoy the course by encouraging them and giving them confidence so that they would continue learning. If it is too difficult for them, they will feel frustrated, will give up, and will never come back to it.

Public Speaking Success
Public speaking, presenting, teaching, instructing – however you want to label it – is critical to your success in life. Whether you are on a stage, a call, a webinar or writing a book the way you communicate effects the outcome. Successful public speaking consists of three elements: 1. Content. A message packed with practical, easy to remember and useful information. 2. Confidence. Knowing that what you share will be valuable and useful, and that you are the one to share it. 3. Connection. You must be able to draw the audience into the message. That’s what brings the laughter, the tears, and the standing ovations. To learn MORE about public speaking success, CLICK HERE.
